A judge has agreed to delay the sentencing date for Hunter Biden’s convictions on felony gun charges.
The sentencing has now been pushed back to December, according to a Thursday order.
Judge Maryellen Noreika granted Hunter Biden’s request to postpone his sentencing.
The hearing, initially scheduled for November 13, has now been moved to December 4.
Biden’s attorney told the judge this week they needed more time to prepare.
They cited other deadlines in Biden’s civil cases and noted several individuals who plan to submit letters on his behalf are busy.
Those individuals are traveling with the “current Administration” or working on the 2024 presidential campaign, they said.
The filing from Hunter Biden’s legal team states:
“Given all the pre-sentencing tasks necessary to adequately prepare for Mr. Biden’s Delaware sentencing, much of which overlap with his sentencing in the California case scheduled for December 16, 2024, and other litigation deadlines (described below), it will be very difficult for Mr. Biden’s counsel to be ready for sentencing on November 13, 2024.”
The filing also noted that “some of the possible in-person witnesses may not be available until after November 5 and the events that could occur right after that date.”
In June, a Delaware jury found Hunter Biden guilty on three felony gun charges
The gun charges are punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
However, he will likely face far less time behind bars or possibly avoid imprisonment entirely.
Earlier this month, Hunter Biden also pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor and three felony counts in his tax case.
He entered into a plea deal just as the trial was slated to begin.
Hunter faced charges for failing to pay over $1.4 million in taxes while spending large sums on his “extravagant lifestyle.”
Those charges carry up to 17 years behind bars.
He also faces up to $1.35 million in fines.
His sentencing in California is scheduled for December 16.
President Joe Biden, who dropped his re-election bid in July, has said he will not use his presidential powers to pardon his son or lessen his sentence.
After his guilty plea on the tax charges, Hunter Biden claimed he wanted to spare his family another painful ordeal.
His gun trial aired salacious and embarrassing details, particularly relating to his crack cocaine addiction and his affair with his dead brother’s widow.
Hunter Biden said he has been sober since 2019.
“I will not subject my family to more pain, more invasions of privacy and needless embarrassment,” Hunter Biden previously said.
“For all I have put them through over the years, I can spare them this, and so I have decided to plead guilty.”
