The campaign for Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris is refusing to reveal the vice president’s “current position” regarding slavery reparations.
The statement from the Harris campaign has provoked mockery on social media over the Democrat candidate’s flip-flopping and lack of transparency.
Harris’s “position,” or lack thereof, was highlighted Wednesday by National Republican Senatorial Committee official Philip Letsou.
In a post on X, Letsou shared a screenshot from Politico’s “Playbook” newsletter.
The Politico newsletter cited a Washington Post report about advocates hoping Harris would support reparations for black people.
The Post notes that Harris did support reparations during her disastrous 2020 presidential campaign.
However, Politico notes that, so far in the 2024 contest “Her campaign isn’t commenting on her current position.”
This comes with under nine weeks to go until Election Day.
Critics piled on with mockery over Harris’s failure to commit.
Many highlighted that Harris has not yet released many policy stances, despite launching her presidential campaign over a month ago.
“No policy platform on her website and now just straight-up refusing to say where she stands on issues,” said Sen. Josh Hawley’s (R-MO) communications director Abigail Jackson.
“Very normal behavior.”
“Is this a thing?” asked BlazeTV podcast host Stu Burguiere.
“We’re not commenting on our current position?
“If this is a thing, why hasn’t every candidate always done it?”
Others brought attention to a CNN interview in which Harris repeatedly said her “values have not changed.”
She made the claim when pressed about her flip-flopping on several policy issues.
President Donald Trump’s campaign shared a clip of Harris saying:
“I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed.”
The MAGA War Room account said Harris is being tightlipped now on reparations “because her position is dangerously liberal and wildly unpopular.”
Another user joked that Harris would rather stick to “vibes” than outline her policy stances.
Others blasted the Democrats’ corporate media allies for not being tougher on Harris.
“The press have spent more time this campaign on Trump taking a picture with Gold Star families than they have asking Kamala Harris to release *any* type of policy platform,” said RedState’s Bonchie.
In another post to X, Republican commentator Matt Whitlock said:
“Media literally yesterday: ‘let’s get back to what the end of ‘brat Summer’ means for the Kamala Harris campaign.’”
